Jacob Jolliff, bluegrass mandolin virtuoso from rural Yamhill County, is visiting home on Friday, June 5th to perform at the shiny new LaJoie Theatre nestled in the Chehalem Cultural Center, a beautifully restored 1934 school building turned non-profit center for the arts in the historic town of Newberg, Oregon.
After attending Berklee School of Music on a full ride scholarship Jacob toured as part of Yonder Mountain String Band from 2014-2019. Since parting ways with them, he has released three jazz records as well as two albums with The Jacob Jolliff Band. Additionally, in 2022, he toured as a member of Béla Fleck’s My Bluegrass Heart. His bluegrass journey started in rural Oregon, playing in a gospel band with his Dad and has since taken him around the world. He comes full circle, bringing a brother with him, for an incredible night of guitar/mandolin storytelling.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, southern roots still permeate Michael Daves music. He moved north and is now heralded as “a leading light of the New York bluegrass scene” by the New York Times. Daves has garnered attention for his work with Chris Thile, Steve Martin, Tony Trischka, Bruce Molsky, Peter Rowan, and others in addition to his solo performances. His album Sleep With One Eye Open (Nonesuch) with Thile earned a 2011 Grammy nomination, and his 2016 double album Orchids and Violence received critical acclaim in publications including the Times and the Wall Street Journal. Daves is a well rounded music instructor with three decades of private and group instruction under his belt. He also launched an online school of bluegrass vocals on ArtistWorks in 2016 and has been a featured presenter at premier festivals and camps, and in various Carnegie Hall programs.
Please join us, from wherever you are in Oregon, to celebrate our talented musical family, community and roots! Looking forward to a special evening of incredible music at home, in Oregon.
