The Loafers are an acoustic quartet,
based in the Portland-Metro area, specializing in bluegrass,
jazz, and old time instrumentals, with a few good classic vocals
thrown in for good measure. We are a new group with some old
names, and a couple new faces. Mike Stahlman plays Scruggs style
5 string banjo with just enough melodic influences to interpret
old fiddle tunes and jazz standards. Mike also occasionally
appears with the Midnight Serenaders and Lee Highway, and is a
veteran Sawtooth Mountain Boy. Mike was formerly a member of the
well known Portlan band, Sunny South. He also teaches bajno in
conjunction with P.C.C. Dave Elliott is the mandolinist and
singer, and has been a member of several well-known Portland
Area bands including Surefire, Old Friends, and Sunny South.
Dave hosts a popular bluegrass program on KBOO 90.7 FM in
Portland, Oregon. On acoustic guitar, we have Aaron Stocek.
Influenced by Tony Rice and Clarence White, he has a great touch
on rhythm, and exciting blues solos. Standup bass is covered by
the talented Holly Johnson, a newcomer to the bluegrass scene.
We discovered her backing up one of our favorite fiddlers and
stole her away. |
