2008 Bluegrass Festivals

July 11-13

Big Horn Mountain Bluegrass Festival (Buffalo, Wyoming) - All right folks, we're good to go for the 4th Annual Big Horn Mountain Festival!  Last year was a hoot and it's looking like another home run is in the works.  Plan on seeing the Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, Don Edwards, Kenny and Amanda Smith, The Byron Berline Band with Barry 'Bones' Patton, Clumsy Lovers, The Sibleys, Jalan Crossland, Jeff Troxel, and more.  There are plenty of ways to have fun, including the Wyoming Mandolin and Banjo Championships with the winners guaranteed slots at the Walnut Valley Festival contests in Winfield, Kansas.  Guitar pickers and fiddlers can join in the contest fun too (but won't earn slots at Winfield), and there is always a good time with the Band Scramble.  A variety of workshops are planned where you can pick up some tips from your favorite performers.  Put it all together and it's time to mark your calendars for July 11, 12, and 13, 2008 at the 4th Annual Big Horn Mountain Festival.

The beautiful Big Horn Mountains frame the festival at the Johnson County Fairgrounds where you will enjoy the true festival experience.  Bring your tent, camper, or RV and spend the entire weekend with us and enjoy some of the best parkin' lot pickin' in the Rocky Mountains.  The Buffalo Wild Bunch will be back cooking up a storm and there will be many other food vendors on the festival grounds.  http://www.bighornmountainfestival.com/

July 25-27

RockyGrass Bluegrass Festival (Lyons, Colorado) - A Day at RockyGrass
A day at RockyGrass starts with a campground breakfast or a quick walk to downtown Lyons to relax at one of the fine coffee shops. Whether walking the campgrounds or Main Street in Lyons, live bluegrass music already fills the air. Soon the sound of bagpipes echoes off the canyon walls, signaling the opening of the festival grounds and the morning tarp rush.

As the afternoon heats up, kids of all ages flock to the sandy beach - beach toys, inner tubes, and all. Meanwhile older folks make new friends with tarp dwellers close to the main stage or under the shady trees. Away from the stage, kids work on crafts in the family tent, while musicians form jam circles in the woods along the river or listen to an instrument contest or workshop in the Wildflower Tent.

All day the audience is treated to headliner after headliner on the main stage. Then when the final headliner finishes their set on the main stage, the campgrounds come alive with jam sessions. A walk through the campground is a vital part of the RockyGrass experience - hearing pickers of all ages and backgrounds sharing in the common language of bluegrass music.

Mark your calendar for the on-site camping lottery for the 2008 RockyGrass. We'll accept entries from November 12 thru November 25. We'll have a preliminary lineup announcement in mid-November. In the meantime, plan to join us this fall for intimate shows in the Wildflower Pavilion and be sure you're signed up for the Festivarian Newsletter for all the latest RockyGrass news. http://bluegrass.com/rockygrass/

Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival (Location: Bolado Park on the San Benito County Fairgrounds, 8 miles south of Hollister, CA, City: Hollister, County: San Benito, Contact: NCBS, Telephone: 831-479-4634, E-mail: hallmw@juno.com. The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival is 'friends and family making music for friends and family.' It is designed to be a high quality showcase of bluegrass talent from the Golden State. The GOF has led to the revival of the Northern California bluegrass scene, with new local bands, new local venues and new local bluegrass fans springing up as bands and fans meet at the festival. Since bands play only a single set on either the main or 'tweener stages, musicians have plenty of time to relax and jam with each other and with fans. With over 50 stage acts in attendance and none having to catch a plane for their out-of-state gig the next day, quality jamming runs all day and night.

The GOF is a small festival with the amenities of a much larger event. Its size makes attendance a no-hassle, laid-back experience with no lines for anything. It's sophistication means this small festival experience comes with two stages, a shaded audience area, a low-power FM radio station, 100% permanent (flushy!) restrooms, hot water showers, top-quality sound, a collectible fine art poster, quality t-shirts, and professional children's activities. http://www.scbs.org/GOF2008/GOF08Home.htm

Centrailia Old-Time Music Campout (Centrailia, Washington) -  Imagine warm summer days, a beautiful river front setting while jamming all day long for more than a whole week!  There won't be any contests, stages, performers, or schedules to keep track of.  This is a relaxed event for musicians who like lots of jamming and hanging out with old and new friends.  Spontaneous, participant organized activities, such as a cocktail party, a square dance (yes, I built a dance floor!), a birthday party, a cornfeed or a pig roast, could occur at any moment.  If you enjoy Stickerville at Weiser, you'll like this event too!  All the fun without the long drive or the intense heat.

We're easy to find.  We're located half-way between Portland and Seattle on I-5 in Centralia, Washington at exit 82.  If you live in Portland or Seattle or even California and want to take the train here, I'll shuttle you to and from the station. The weather is usually warm and dry this time of year. Gather up your friends and family and come on down for a week of relaxation, fun and music!

If you need more information, email me.  This is a 'by donation' event.  The suggested donation for the week is $50.00 per person and kids (12 and under) are free!  I gratefully accept donations in an attempt to recover my expenses such as pasture rent, insurance, flush toilets!, garbage collection, extension of city water to the site, a shower house, maintenance to the shower house and toilets, tractor work to mow the field, dance floor, etc...If you can't afford to donate (i.e. you just lost your job, you just got your car out of the shop, or you just filled your gas tank!, etc.), come on down anyway!  You can help Ray by contributing a bit of your time to help keep things running smoothly.  This campout is about having a good time with friends and the love of the music.  If you can afford more than $50, of course, that would be welcomed too!  Your generous support is greatly appreciated and is what enables us to do this year after year.  Drinking water is available in the camping area as are hot showers that are available 24 hours a day (These showers never run out of hot water!!)  I installed new flush toilets to make your stay with us just a little more comfortable.....No more 'honey buckets'!  There is ample room for your tent or RV.  And for you non-camping types, there are a few motels and B&B's in town.  For directions to the camp, click here and print them out. To register, print this registration form, fill it out, attach your check made payable to Ray Leach, and snail-mail it to:
